For flexible PVC, DuPont Elvaloy® adds permanent flexibility, enabling the development of higher-value products such as single-ply roofing, environmental liners, "no-dig" water and sewer pipe repair liners, coated fabrics, footwear, and wire and cable jacketing.
Many flexible PVC products incorporate liquid plasticizers. However, such systems tend to lose flexibility over time, as the liquid plasticizers migrate to the surface of the plastic and are lost to the environment. Plasticizer loss can lead to brittle failure of the PVC sheet or component.
In contrast, Elvaloy® copolymers deliver toughness and flexibility that's "locked in" to the PVC. A number of grades are available for use in flexible PVC compounding. These solid-phase plasticizers are highly miscible in PVC, and their high molecular weight keeps them from migrating out of the compound.
